With more crowd visiting the Penang State Sports Council booth at the Occupy Beach Street event , more is in store for the event every Sunday.
Week three saw a larger crowd than the previous week as they were treated not only sports demonstration but also a chance free try outs.
To many, it was interesting to learn of the sport of petangue, lawn bowling and woodball as these sports are not commonly played in the country.
Seeing how easy it was to learn the sport, many took a go at learning basic petangue and woodball techniques under the supervision of these sports coaches.
Penang State Sports Council director Frederick Tan said that it was very encouraging to see the public participate in the sports.
“This could spark the interest in people to learn about the sports and hopefully pick up the sports.
“We always welcome the community to learn more sports especially if it involves families and young children,” said Tan.
He said that the following will be more interesting because the Council will not only present sports demonstration but also throw in talks and free consultation on topics in sports science.
People visiting the Occupy Beach Street event on 24 Nov will be treated with fencing, silambam and cycling demonstration at 8.00 am and 10.30 am.
There will also be free 15-minute talks each on sports diet and sports injury at 9.00 am followed by free consultation for the public on the same topics.
