Over 2,600 participants including 350 orphans and disabled people participated in the annual Guang Ming Bukit Jambul Hikathon 2012 which was held on Sunday, 14 October 2012 at the Bukit Jambul Hiking area.
As in previous years, it was a fun and interesting event for everyone, young and old. The 7km route proved to be challenging for first time participants but an easy feat for the consistent hiker. The first 100 participant who completed the hike each received finisher medal but everyone had guaranteed a good time with live band performances and lucky draw prizes, thanks to our sponsors. Children age 12 years old and below were given 500 goodies bags, at a first come first served basis, specially prepared with plenty of surprises including breakfast.
State Youth and Sports, Women, Family and Community Development chairman YB Puan Lydia Ong Kok Fooi and Batu Uban assemblyman YB Mr Raveentharan were present to flag off the hike at 7.30am after the joining the crowd in a mass aerobics warming up.
As it was also organised to raise funds for charity, some eight NGOs including a school received funds amounting to a total of RM9,500.
